Abstract
—With
the
development
of
digital
campus
in
university, many new requirements to Office Automation (OA)
system are put forward. Design of a new OA system based on
modern digital campus platform was presented in this paper.
The
key
points
between
digital
campus
platform
and
application system integration technology were discussed in
detail. The OA system has been implemented and integrated
with the digital campus platform through J2EE and workflow
technology. This system has been successively applied at Xi’an
Jiaotong University.

Office
Automation
(OA)
is
a
human-machine
information processing system that is used to automate the
business in office through Internet / Intranet
,
workflow and
other advanced technologies. In OA system, tasks are
handled through cooperative efforts so that the in-house
staffs could share information quickly and conveniently and
cooperate
efficiently.
With
the
advent
of
OA,
the
complicated and inefficient office manual mode has been
changed, and instead a rapid and comprehensive information
collection and processing system is proposed to provide a
scientific basis for the management and decision-making,
there are several kinds of OA systems that have arisen with
the development of information technology. The first
generation of OA system, using the PC as a center, realizes
the electronic document management with the assistance of
Microsoft Office, WPS and some other software. The second
generation of OA system is based on Internet technology and
uses workflow technology to automate the manual process of
business. The third generation of OA system is a
comprehensive
management
system
that
integrates
information
processing,
business
process
as
well
as
knowledge management, and it provides decision support,
knowledge mining and other services for groups and
individuals.
In recent years, with the increase of investment in
university information construction, the campus network and
hardware devices have been greatly improved. Meanwhile,
many problems about software have arisen. Firstly, overall
planning is neglected in the construction of the software. For
example, some information systems is designed and
constructed for specific department rather than the university
as a whole, which isolated the information systems between
departments. Secondly, some parts of the system can no
longer meet the needs of current work and business
processes. A great deal of work can not be handled
independently by the system, and additional manual work is
required to address such issues. As a result, the overall office
efficiency can not be significantly improved. Thirdly, the
