Labelling theory and its consequences:Labeling theory is all about the sociology of crime, criminals, it’s long and short-termconsequences. It is categorized as crime and deviant which is decided by people of high social,societal, and judicial power. Deviance is the standards in a social context defined by people ofhigher status for lower ones. When a person is labeled as a deviant, he is considereduntrustworthy, dishonest, and dangerous. He is forced to be alienated and becomes the bad manof the community. The labeling process targets minorities, youth, the poor, and women to a greatdegree (Siegal, L. J. 2005).Illustrating an example of an African American who is labeled as adeviant by the white community. After his release, having a record of being an offender and laterconsequences, he will face the problems of unemployment, alienation, and hatred. Many times,they are unaccepted by their own family.Due to the deviant labeling, he will face long-termconsequences in his professional, social and personal life for a very long time which can be alifetime in many cases.
