11/16/07 Political Science “Some Truths are Not Self-evident” Chapter 3, Article #12, pages 101-103 In Article 12, Howard Zinn elaborates more on the constitution and our rights. Besides religion, he interprets more then one issue to show that the government is cheating the citizens of the United States. I agree with Zinn on the fact that we are limited to our freedom. He mentions the equality issues that are still a problem. The fight for racial equality is a matter that has been going on for years now. One of the examples he used was the trial of Brown vs. the Board of Education that took place in 1954. An African American female had the perfect grades to get into a good school that she wanted to go to but she could not because of segregation. He also used the boycott that lead to the Civil Rights Movement as another example. This movement changed the world because African Americans were able to work now and integration was coming into play. Then another main topic he mentions is the freedom of speech, in which we are
