Lam Fall 2007 ENG 1302 General Grading Rubric A – The “A” essay demonstrates full and sustained control over all the elements of composition. It has all of the following characteristics: Assignment is completely fulfilled. Introduction, thesis, and conclusion are all lucid and engaging. Content is very strong. Transitions are smooth, and diction is precise and clear. Paragraphing is always effective. Sources are used effectively and documented flawlessly. Style is mature, development is consistently thorough, ideas are thoughtful and original, and grammar is excellent. The paper is fresh and interesting overall. It contains no major grammatical errors and very few mechanical errors. B – The “B” essay demonstrates competent control over all the elements of composition. It has all of the following characteristics: Assignment is completely fulfilled. Introduction, thesis, and conclusion are competent. Content is strong. Diction and transitions are clear. Paragraphing is effective. Sources are used effectively and documented correctly.
