Austin Churchill Dr. Brady English 225November 30, 2014 Faustus destined to be doomedOne of the things that every human has is free will. We are born with the ability tomake choices for ourselves, these can be good or bad choices in the end. Sometimes when we want to make the right choice we are tempted with other choices that we could make that could hurt us. I believe this is what happens to Doctor Faustus, he is tempted with power and because of his nature to always want knowledge he sells his soul to the devil.I think that Faustus was destined to sell his soul to the Devil at the beginning of the poem because of how many times he could have changed his mind and he never did anything about it. Faustus is a very accomplished man and is obsessed with the power that magic could bring him if he is able to become a mast of it. I will be using three examples at the beginning of the poem to show how he could have done this. At the beginning of the play we see Faustus weighing the options of the next thing he should devote his time to. He contemplates many things like being a physician, or studying the bible, “Be a physician Faustus, heap up gold, And be eterniz’d for some wonderous cure!” (lines 14-15) He decides that he is already a doctor and continues to think of things. Until the moment he starts to think about how we all die and then decides that he wants to take up magic because of the power that he sees it will give him. “O, what a
