Your Writing Prompt Based on your research, identify and analyze a human rights issue in your novel and show how it relates to real-life issues and affects people within the United States and one other country. I. Introduction A. Hook: In the early 1900’s, people with disabilities had no help or support which left them helpless. Bridge: The time period which the novel was written in was during the great depression. Although slavery had ended, human rights hadn’t been fully created which allowed for much hatred for black people and no understanding of people with mental handicaps. This novel helps to understand the trouble it was like for people that had no document to give them legal help. Nowadays, there are hospitals for people like Lennie which help them learn and live peacefully. B. Thesis : John Steinbecks’ novel Of Mice and Men explains the struggle for people that do not have human rights, which results in the mistreating of many people due to their lack of knowledge in their problems.
