Marie Antoinette married the French King Louis XVI when she was 15 years old. Marie Antoinette helped provoke instability that led to the French Revolution and to the overthrow of the monarchy in August 1792. She was convicted and sent to the guillotine on October 16, 1793. 2) Did she really say this quote? a. Marie Antoinette is rumored to have said the quote; however, Lady Antonia Fraser, author of a biography of the French queen, believes the quote would have been highly uncharacteristic of Marie-Antoinette (History.com staff). 3) If not, who might have? a.
