The Open WindowThe Open Window is the most popular thriller short story written by Hector Hugh Munro (1870-1916), first published in the collection Beasts and Super-Beastsin 1914. Hector Hugh Munro better known by the name of Saki was a British writer; he was considered a master of the short story. His style of writing is humorous (black humor) and sometimes macabre. Many of his stories satirized Edwardian society. He took part in the I World War as an ordinary trooper and was killed in France by a German sniper. The following paragraphs are an analysis of “The Open Window”; first I present a brief summary. It will be followed by the plot and literary elements. It concludes with a short conclusion. The Open Window is a short story about a nervous man, Framton Nuttel that moves in a new town looking for rest in order to ease his nervous disorder. His sister provides him letters of introduction so he can visit people there and get to know them.
