Önder Çetin ASSIGNMENT 6 Post Liquefaction Ground Deformations Due on: 19 th December, 2006 Northwestern Turkey was strongly shaken by a major earthquake on August 17, 1999 (the Izmit earthquake, M w =7.4). The fault rupture was primarily right lateral strike- slip, and the primary fault rupture reached to the surface. After the earthquake, lateral spread ground deformations totaling to a maximum of 1.2 m was mapped at Yalova Ferry Harbor which is located approximately 1 km to the fault rupture. Peak ground acceleration at the site was estimated as 0.45 g. For the purpose of identifying possible reasons of subject ground deformations, a site investigation program including undisturbed and disturbed sampling as well as standard penetration testing was

Borehole diameter = 76 mm iii. Borehole was drilled by using mud rotary techniques with a side discharge bit. iv. Standard split spoon sampler (no room for liner). Estimate the amount of lateral spreading by using a) Hamada et al (1986) b) Youd et al (2002) c) Ishihara (1997) methodologies by assuming that the site is sloping 3 % in the direction of lateral spreading.
