Önder Çetin ASSIGNMENT 3 Dynamic Soil Properties 1. Plot the estimated modulus degradation vs. shear strain curve for sands under mean effective stress range of 1-3 ksc (1-3 atm) and the average for gravels as recommended by Seed et al. (1984) on the Vucetic and Dobry (1991) modulus degradation plot. Also plot the mean estimated damping vs. shear strain relationship for sands under mean effective stress range of 1-3 ksc (1-3 atm) on the Vucetic and Dobry (1991) damping vs. shear strain plots. On the Vucetic and Dobry (1991) damping vs. shear strain plot, try to estimate the damping vs. shear strain behavior of gravels. 2. Consider a horizontal soil layer of 2 m in thickness, which occurs at some depth below the surface of a site. The vertical effective stress at this depth is approximated as 1.6 atm. Subsurface characterization studies including borings, approximated as 1....
