Description of Social Stratification 1.1 Gender stratification: refers to men and women’s unequal access to power, prestige, and property on the basis of their sex (delmar.edu). 1.2 There is a gender stratification at the workplace. Men make more money per hour than women, even if they are both trained equally for the job (delmar.edu). Men have a greater access to the labor market than women do (delmar.edu). Women who enter the labor market have lower paying jobs, they enter the labor market later than men and periodically have to leave, and women earn less overtime than men (delmar.edu). 1.3 Equality in pay has improved so that women earn 81% compared to men (ilo.org). In 2010, 46.7% of the workforce was women, and is not expected to increase until 2018. In 2009, only 24% of CEOs in the US were women and they earned 74.5% as much as men CEOs (ilo.org). 2.
