Tories/Whigs: see notes Monmouth’s Rebellion: Duke of Monmouth’s attempt to gain power…failed because public was afraid of civil war. Parliament Dissolved in 1685, 1687: James didn’t need Parliament because of subsidies from France, so he refused to call them to prevent further laws against Catholics. Hale’s Case:
