Lecture Notes 18/01/2007 17:10:00 Remember The Titans     Hollywood film interested in race relations in Virginia set in the early 1970s.  “Based On A True Story” o Film revolves around historical events, and supposedly real events.  Not watching history but the representation of history o All history is an interpretation from a particular perspective – promoting  a point of view (it is not universal history!) o Whose history is this? Whose story is this? Whose point of view is  privileged? o Hollywood films about racism Usually located in the south, and its representation of racism is  often presented from a historical respective. » It makes it seem like the rest of the country was fin and  this particular place was “wrong” » Two of the white characters who come fro out of town are  supposedly not racist and come from an area where  racism is not a problem… Sunshine (from California) and  Louie (from New Jersey). They represent liberalism, and  from the very beginning they fit very easily with the black  teammates. They represent an interesting contrast with  the white players. By placing racism in the past, it makes it seem like racism
