The reason the Kozol says that our reactions to the problem of illiteracy in America test …… our belief in democracy is because those who are illiterate cannot vote. And even ………… those who do vote, don’t vote for the person based on what they are going to do for ………… America, but rather for the person who had the friendliest face. It is clearly …………. undermining our belief in Democracy because they don’t even get a say in who is …………. running our country. 3. A circumscribed existence is basically living inside a small circle and you can’t get out of ………… that circle. An illiterate person can’t do basic things like call for help or watch a TV ………… show. Whatever is on if they can even turn the TV on is what they have to watch …………. because they can’t read the names of the shows. They can’t cook because they are not ………… able to follow a recipe because they can’t read it. 4. Illiterate adults do many things such as buy houses or rent cars or even get a driver’s ………… license but they can’t read the fine print. This poses for a big problem. They sign a ………… document without even knowing what it says.
