Jennifer HoffmannALH 1101.54520 February 2022Communication Styles Part 2PERCEPTION: Samantha BowlingPerception plays a huge role in communication. I feel that perception issomething that you don’t typically think that about you are thinking about theaspects of communication. Perception is also how you interpret and organizeinformation. If you said one thing, many people might have a different perceptionof the thing you just said. Age, gender, and the way you are raised are all factorsthat could alter your perception on certain things. There are many other factorsthat alter perception as well. It can be difficult to determine how one person willinterpret things. Interpretation could cause issues between friends, family, relationships or even in the workplace.Perspective of patient to healthcare professional. As a healthcare worker working directly with patients, you will see a wide range ofdifferent people. It will be crucial to have a healthy and realistic perception of things thepatient may be expressing to you or showing you. It is an expectation of us ashealthcare employees to be open minded and understanding of the diverse communitywe will be working with.
Perspective of healthcare profession to patient. As I’ve mentioned multiple times, we as healthcare workers will most likely be workingwith a diverse group of patients over our time in the healthcare field. It is critical for usas healthcare employees to recognize how a patient may negatively interpret somethingwe may be telling them. That is something important to be mindful about as a healthcare employee.Second way to improveThe second way we can improve our skill of perception is working on how we interpretthings and learn a healthy way to interpret things. For example, I tend to overreact tosmall things because I am interpreting them as much worse than they truly are. Gettingolder and becoming more mature has helped me in that regard but we can all improvethat skill more.Third way to improveThe third thing we can do to improve this skill is having empathy. Empathy is your abilityto understand and by sympathetic of the emotions of another person. This may be a
patient or anyone else in your life. Learning how to do that could help you keep youremotions in control to best do your job and communicate with others effectively.CONFLICT: Jennifer HoffmannSection 1: Conflict in Communication:Conflict can be defined asan expressed disagreement between two or more peoplewho have differing goals or do not see eye to eye on how to reach a solution. When aconflict arises, the disagreement may be either verbal or present through actions orfacial expressions. Conflict management is crucial in communication as effective, positive conversation cannot be had when one or more people do not agree on asubject. Oftentimes, when a conflict arises everyone has the same goal in mind, so it isimperative that each party involved has the skills to ease disagreements and
