In the time Early Christians, the idea of Martyrdom was sought after by many people. There was one factor, or should I say 6 factors that people overlooked when considering Martyrdom. In order to become a successful martyr, one would need to fulfill all 6 elements of Martyrdom. Each element is not complicated to complete, but it does take an extreme amount of dedication to die for a purpose. In order to become a Martyr you have to understand what Martyrdom is. In short, Martyrdom is a sacrifice for a deeper purpose. The idea that you as an individual are prepared to go onto a whole level of dedication to God is what every Martyr strives for. “Two points need to emphasized here: first, as we have already seen, martyrdoms are rituals of exaltation – exaltation of the divinized human being – that draw upon the conceptions of the Temple as a place of sacrifice and identify the martyr’s death as a sacrifice, not as a suicide…Second, martyrdoms permit the exaltation of women, who are equally a sacrifice” (Young 72). The two points above are what every individual needs to realize before undertaking the process of martyrdom. Through the sacrifice, exaltation is one of the payoffs for any martyr. Exaltation is the idea that the individual is imitating the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. By following the example Jesus, martyr’s find themselves being venerated, and therefore setting in motion some sort of influential
