Africa-Fall 2016 Honors 90 Opinion Paper Africa, in terms of portrayals in Hollywood, is a much larger and more diverse area than that of our previous regional topics. As a continent, Africa has a multitude of diverse, unique countries with varying groups of people and cultures. While other regions we have discussed have had their own governmental influence or impact on the US movie industry through outspoken critics, intervention, or protest, Africa in general is unique because most of our attention is focused on the ongoing racial tension affecting African Americans in this country, rather than the portrayal of Africans themselves. Another sign that separates Africa from the rest of our global discussions is the fact that we as an American people talk about Africa as a country in some ways, a homogenous, mainly struggling and backwards area that needs our constant assistant and aid. Hollywood, in general, does nothing to dispel such a general belief. In my own circle of experience, my largest movie exposure to Africa
