ASSIGNMENT BMCG 2113 SOLID MECHANICS I General Instructions: 1. This assignment consist of three questions that will be done in group. 2. Total marks of this assignment is 80 %, that will contribute to 10 % of your total coursework marks. ______________________________________________________________________________ Q1 (a) Describe the meaning of beam. By using an appropriate diagram, sketch a cantilever beam and overhanging beam that both subjected to concentrated and uniform distributed loads. (6 marks) (b) Beam shown in the Figure 1.1 is subjected a uniform distributed load of 12 kN/m. The cross section of the beam have a height-to-width ratio of 1.5, i. Find the reaction forces at support A and B . (3 marks) ii. Sketch the shear force and bending moment diagrams. (8 marks) iii.
