Film Journal # 3 Three Worlds of Bali and A Balinese Trance Seance 12/07/07 In Three Worlds of Bali , the most important thing is to keep the gods of Growth and De- cay in balance through the arts including making sure that the temples function properly. The ancient literature passed down through poems represents the ancient history of the civilization. The priests and kings were the most important beings in the civilizations. They ruled the lands of Bali until the 20th century. On September 14, 1906 Bali was invaded by the Dutch. They fought for two years, but the male royalty gave in and conceded to “The Finish.” They fought until they could fight no longer and they allowed themselves to be killed. 1947, Bali became a province of Indonesia, and soon Bali became a tourist destination and was heavily influenced by the west. Time cycles rule the Balinese calendars such that the time cycles constantly repeat themself to represent growth and decay. The temples festivals represent new time cycles that
