1Leading a Global OrganizationForrest TaylorColorado State University - Global CampusORG525: Decision Theory in a Global MarketplaceDr. BellNovember 6, 2022
2Leading a Global OrganizationOrganizational leadership is important in any organization. Leaders within an organizationmust understand the core values within the organization and how they reflect organizationalculture. Values represent those beliefs organizations incorporate into their culture and strategicgoals that provide a framework for all activities within the organization. Values serve to guidemanagement and employees in meeting daily goals and meeting strategic goals. Organizationalculture is dependent on clearly understood values, transparency and openness. By identifyingvalues in an organization, a mission statement will be written along with five organizationalvalues, along with identifying the elements and competence of each value. A personal story willbe shared where there was a lack of transparency which helped modify my understanding of theimportance of honesty and trust in organizations.Mission StatementMission statements explain why an organization exists and describes the organization’spurpose and overall intentions (SHRM).Mission statements identify the purpose of anorganization, state what will be done and by whom it will be done (Martin, Ankle & Santen,2018).A mission statement supports the vision of the organization and communicates toemployees, customers, vendors and stakeholders the purpose of the organization (SHRM).Mission statements should be simple, captivating, measurable, relevant and have longevity(Martin, Ankle & Santen, 2018). A mission statement should answer the question of what is theoverall purpose of the organization and why does it exist (SHRM). Mission statements should beeasily identifiable and understood by all employees. Mission statements should also serve asguidance for employees and leaders by identifying the strategic goals. A mission statement helpsdefine the culture of an organization, guides decision-making, and is inspirational. People often
3confuse mission statements and vision statements, but they have different purposes but allow forinterdependence upon each other. Vision statements provide guidance in how to meet the missionstatement. The assignment requires writing a mission statement as CEO of the organization creating aculture of openness, trust and transparency. The mission statement is “To encourage anatmosphere of trust and openness by promoting transparency in all activities, encouraginginnovation, creating values that are both inspirational to employees internally and externally toothers.”Core Organizational ValuesCore values help to align the mission and vision and most often includes 5 values or morethat serve as the guiding principles (Martin, Ankle, & Santen, 2018). Organizational core valuesshould serve as the “essential and enduring tenets of an organization” (Collins & Porras, 1996).
