AOS 100 Homework #4 1) Would your skin feel cooler upon stepping out of the shower in your home (T=22 C, T d =12 C) or upon stepping out of a swimming pool in Bullhead City, AZ (T=37 C, T d =-5 C)? Explain your answer to the relationship between relative humidity and evaporation rate. In this case, we have the T dd = 22-12 = 10 C , dewpoint depression, for home and T dd = 37 – (-5) = 42 C for swimming pool in Bullhead. If you were out of the shower or swimming pool, you would feel cool because of the evaporation process. Because we have larger T dd in Bullhead, the RH is lower than home. Thus, home where RH is higher requires less water vapor molecules to meet its saturation; the evaporation rate increases as a consequence of RH being lower. As a result, stepping out of swimming pool in Bullhead in AZ would feel cooler because it requires more evaporation process to make it saturated.
