Animal Development Development consists of three changes: cell division, morphogenesis, and cell differentiation Morphogenesis- the complex processes leading to the final shape of the organism and the arrangement of its parts Cells -> Tissues-> Organs-> Organ Systems-> Organisms 2. Starfish Development GO OVER p. 351-354 Cells divide up until 16 cell stage- all the same size Blastopore- invagination that appears during Gastrula stage ->Archenteron Archenteron- primitive gut 3. Frog Development GO OVER p. 358-360 Cells dividing are not the same size Animal hemisphere- pigmented yolk Vegetal hemisphere- unpigmented yolk Gray crescent- near junction between animal and vegetal hemispheres Blastocoel- forms between central region of the blastoderm and the yolk Yolk plug - the remaining patch of endodermal cells that is created during the formation of the ventral lip of the blastopore Ectoderm, endoderm, mesoderm form in gastrula stage
