He is known as a founding father for his role in Republicanism, under his presidency the Louisiana Purchase and Lewis and Clark Expeditions were made, and he also had a huge hand in the introduction to American education. II. INFLUENCES IN EDUCATION a. Jefferson’s Plan for Education. i. 1778: Early in his political career he passed Bill for the More General Diffusion of Knowledge in. 1. The bill called for “At every of these schools shall be taught reading, writing, and common arithmetick, and the books which shall be used therein for instructing the children to read shall be such as will at the same time make them acquainted with Graecian, Roman, English, and American history.
