Middleware is a general term for any programming that serves to “glue together” or mediate between two separate and usually already existing programs. Yong et al.’s 2009 study (as cited in Venkatasubramanian, 2002) found that a common application of middleware is to allow programs written for access to a particular database (such as DB2 or SQLServer) to access other databases (such as VSAM, IMS, Oracle, Adabas), or even applications such as SAP without the need for custom coding. Middleware is commonly known as the “plumbing” of an information system as it routes data and information transparently between different back-end data sources and end-user applications [Placeholder1] . It usually doesn’t have much if any visible front-end of its own – but it is an essential component of any IT infrastructure as it allows disparate systems to be joined together in a common framework.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
