All the different cultural identities made Texans more malleable when it came to new concepts In 1890 Tx and Mississippi were similar (statistically) 1930-40 they were different External factors- beyond the border of Texas Individual initiative Multiple causes of change are possible Acceleration of capitalist system A change in memory and identity= a new culture? If they wanted to try something new like inflate the money supply they did it. Texans by the 1930's the politicians became better at working these ^ forces to the advantage of Texas Macro- study of big economic forces like debt or the money supply A different political generation Politics and Macroeconomics Better able to buy and sell things, manage credit, etc. Texas businesses and households and say on a smaller scale Texas were more able to take us into an upward spiral Business Enterprise and household economics There was more of a cause then just the federal govt. When and why does significant change occur? Evidence and concepts 1. Minimum wage was puny and didn't apply to ag workers. Still lifted up wages at the very bottom which then means more money gets spent which means more people get higher wages 1939-1949 much of Texas experienced a boom Social Security and the minimum wage
