Zhang, Kevin Psych 85 Reaction Page #6 (Rumelhart) The current topic of the course now is “Neural Networks”, and our assigned reading was “The Architecture of Mind: A Connectionist Approach”, by Rumelhart. As the title suggest, and in relation to our course, we are observing the mind, but also applicable to artificial intelligence with the connectionist approach. Architecture of a computer is said to be neutrally inspired and the computations are brain-style computations. A Connectionist framework of neural network requires 7 major components. Firstly, a set of processing units which are used for input, output, and hidden. Secondly, there must be a state of activation which is a form of representation of the system in relevance to time, and this should be observable giving a specific time. Output which mainly relates to transmitting signals and information to neighbors. Pattern of connectivity defines how units are connected to one another and illustrates how the system will respond to arbitrary inputs. There are two rules that must also be applied, that is the activation rule and the

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
