Current Events Paper In the article Restoring bonds between police, inner-city kids, in an era of mistrust, Eric Frazier discusses the complex relationship between inner-city kids from generally low income families and their relationship with the authority that serves in their area. Officer Vernon Cathcart was a student at Druid Hills Academy, a K-8 campus that is attended mostly by poverty stricken children who are taught to fear police officers. Cathcart describes his interactions with the children and the lack of respect he receives. The article The Code of the Street by Elijah Anderson helps us to understand some of the sociological reasoning behind these mannerisms portrayed by the children. To begin, Anderson explains the degenerate actions that are all too common in the inner city — carjackings, burglaries, muggings and shootings that often leave innocent bystanders injured or dead. Among these children, there is what is called “code” that gives rules of how to handle yourself in the streets of these inner-city communities.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
