The Fibonacci sequence can be easily applied to our everyday lives. This is why it is so unique compared to the other concepts learned in this course. The Fibonacci sequence is what created the golden ratio. This ratio allows us to understand the pattern that we often find in nature, in artwork, as well as in the popular culture. Understanding the origins of Fibonacci’s sequence will help understand how it can be applied to us. Fibonacci sequence was discovered by Leonardo de Fibonacci de Pisa but can be traced back all the way to the Indian Sanskrit. Fibonacci was an Italian mathematician that was highly influential during the Middle Ages. His father was a merchant in Italy and traded in North Africa. Fibonacci was born around 1170 and because his father traveled so often, he was educated in North Africa. There, he was able to learn about the Hindu Arabic numeral system. This system is what ultimately shaped the Fibonacci sequence. He saw how great of an advantage he has learning about the numeral system in North Africa and decided to follow an Arab mathematician around the Mediterranean world. During his travel he recorded everything he learned in several books. Because there was no printing at the time, his books were all handwritten. Many of his books were lost but we still have copies of Liber Abaci, Practica geometriae, Flos and Lober quadratorum. One of his most famous books, Liber Abaci, was published when he returned to
