Intro to Org DECISION Making Decision making is the process of developing a commitment to some course of action. 1-Choice –among several alternatives 2-Process-how this decision was reached 3-commitment-involves commitment of resources Problem-A perceived gap between an existing state and a desired state. A well structured problem-A problem for which the existing state is clear,the desired state is clear,and how to get from one state to the other is fairly obvious. For example brushing a teeth , Decision making takes time and is prone to error,organizations(and individuals)attempt to program the decision making for well structured problems. Program is a standardized way of solving a problem. Programs usually go under labels such as rules,routines,standard operating procedures or rules of thumb. to the desired state is unknown.Ill structured problems are generally unique .they tend to be complex and involve a high degree of uncertainty.they arise controversy and conflict among people. Perfect rationality-A decision strategy that is completely informed,perfectly logical and oriented toward economic gain.has only criterion for decision making economic gain.
