Service Learning Reflection Journal Service has always been an important deed for me. Since my time in middle school, I have been volunteering and offering my services to others, mostly in the medical field. Our service project on assisting veterans has helped me to acquire a better understanding of the different ways to be a Good Samaritan. At the beginning of the semester, I believed that service to others required people to assist others directly. I saw service as being a direct physical action that benefited other people. Our Academic F oundations class’s service project of donating simple toiletry items changed my entire perspective on the idea of service. A simple donation, I learned, is just as great as directly helping others. No matter how small the act is, it is considered service as long as the individual conducting that act has the heart and mind in the right place. Our veteran service project made me realize and helped me gain a better understanding of the current issues of United States veterans. I never realized that veterans around the nation faced
