Case Study #3 For this assignment, we are assuming that I drank 8, 10oz. glasses of wine with a 12% alcohol content. My weight is 77.1107 kg and my height is 165.1 cm. Widmark Calculations: 0.55(77.1107kg) = 42.41L Watson Calculations: -2.10 + (0.107*165.1cm) + (0.247*77.1107kg) = 34.6L Dose: 80oz= 2365.88mL EtOH (g) = (2365.88mL) (.12) (.791)= 224.57g BAC Calculations: Widmark: 224.57g/(42.7L/.8)= 4.2g/L Watson: 224.57g/(34.6L/.8)= 5.2g/L Legal BAC: 0.8g/L How long until I can drive: (4.2g/L) – (.8g/L) = 3.4g/L / (.2g/L)= 17 hours until BAC is 0.8g/L (5.2g/L) – (.8g/L) = 4.4g/L / (.2g/L)= 22 hours until BAC is to 0.8g/L If I were to actually drink 8, 10 oz. glasses of wine all at the same time, I would probably die. This is because at BAC levels of 0.31 and above, you are at serious risk for death (1). This is also pertinent to the age laws for drinking. Studies show that people under 20 tend to drink about 5 drinks at a time (2). This means they have no time to metabolize any alcohol and their BAC skyrockets to dangerous levels. In the United States, the maximum Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) that one can have and still legally drive is 0.8 g/L. This threshold is used because this is the amount at which almost everyone experiences impairment

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
