Synthesis: Characteristics of the American Colonial Period Even though the colonists came to America in what seemed like ages ago, around the 1600s, believe it or not, they also had literature! We can use ideas reflected in their diary entries and books to learn that people during the colonial period were super religious, they often led difficult lives, and they were constantly exposed to new things. First and foremost, people during the colonial period were super religious. In “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” uses the words “wrath” and “infinite misery” to describe that everyone’s evil doings anger God and he will punish them with his burning wrath. This shows that the colonists were influenced to doing good deeds, since they feared God was going to release his fury upon them. “Huswifery” talks about how devoted the colonists were to God. In fact, they even made a robe for him and really desired to worship him. This interesting little detail just about concludes how devoted to God the colonists were.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
