Teniola Idowu Professor Kyung Hee Park Music Appreciation 11/13/14 Concert Report I attended a faculty recital on Sunday November 2 nd at the Marlboro Gallery. This recital featured Angelina Shumway (vocalist), Peggy Bair (flute) and Gary Kirbey on the piano. Shumway is a soprano and a seasoned classical singer. She has done many solo performances with orchestras, and has had many opera roles including one in the “Creation” by Joseph Haydn. Bair is an accomplished flute player who has played with many chamber groups all over the area. Also, she recently retired from the United States Navy Band. Kirbey recently retired from being the chair of the Arts and Music Department at PGCC, and now he is an adjunct Professor of Music. During this recital five pieces were played, however, I will only talk about following pieces: “Lascia Ch’io Pianga”, “Sonata in C Major”, and “Concertino” for flute and piano. “Lascia Ch’io Pianga”, an aria, is from the opera Rinaldo by George Frederic Handel (1685-1759), and it is written in da capo form.
