LAW IN BUSINESS AND SOCIETY 2 Law in Business and Society Laws have always played a significant part in society and business, consequently in many ways there would be complete pandemonium and many ruthless, horrible, circumstances would take place if it were not because of the laws that our state and federal organizations maintain. The definition, functions and role of law in business and society will be examined along with the functions and roles of law in my present day job, which I currently am a stay at home dad. Having laws in society and business is key to our peaceful continuance long into the future by ensuring fairness and punishments for crimes and general disobedience. Business and Society The by and large recognized definition of law is, according to "Law" (2015), (the body of rules and principles governing the affairs of a community and enforced by a political authority; a legal system). Laws are supposed to make everyone one an even playing field when decisions are made in the court room, for example Cipollone v. Liggett case were a son sued a tobacco company for false advertising causing his mother’s death. Cipollone claimed Liggett the tobacco company was fraudulently misrepresenting the hazarder of smoking, and a conspiracy to deprive the public of medical and scientific information about smoking. The outcome was against Cipollone by decision of the Supreme Court. Unfortunately the law does not always stand up in court no pun intended; due to big business buying judges and fattening funneling money into cooperation’s like Chamber of Commerce.
