Lab9-10 Titration and Molarity Reaction Equation: 2NaOH (aq) + H2C2O4 (aq) Na2C2O4 (aq) + 2H2O (l) Materials 1. Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) 2. Cylinder, 250mL volumetric flask, ring stand, gloves, distilled water, weigh paper, clamp, index paper, 150 mL beaker, Erlenmeyer flasks w/glass stopper, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenolphthalein Indicator, analytical balance, stand, and wipes. Safety precautions Wear goggles Wear appropriate clothes and tie your long hair back. Wear gloves when handling chemicals Follow all the safety precautions Ssds NaOH: Very hazardous in case of skin contact (corrosive, irritant, permeator), of eye contact (irritant, corrosive), of ingestion, of inhalation. Eye contact can result in corneal damage or blindness. Inhalation of dust will produce irritation to gastro- intestinal or respiratory tract, characterized by burning, sneezing and coughing. Severe over-exposure can produce lung damage, choking, unconsciousness or death. H2C2O4. 2h2O: Very hazardous in case of skin contact (irritant), of eye contact (irritant), of ingestion, of inhalation. Hazardous in case of skin contact (permeator), of eye contact (corrosive). Inhalation of dust will produce irritation to gastro-intestinal or respiratory tract, characterized by burning, sneezing and coughing. Severe over- exposure can produce lung damage, choking, unconsciousness or death. Inflammation of the eye is characterized by redness, watering, and itching. PROCEDURE It is important that you label EVERYTHING or you would waste time getting your solutions mixed up. WEAR GOGGLES AT ALL TIMES IN THE LAB, INCLUDING THE TIME WHEN YOU ARE “JUST CLEANING UP!” 1. Observe all safety Precautions 2. Before starting obtain from the gather the following items: 250 mL volumetric flask with a ground-glass stopper 25 mL burette and a burette clamp 400 mL size beaker and label it waste. 150 mL size beaker and label it unknown NaOH 3 250 or 125ml Erlenmeyer flasks and label them Trial 1, Trial 2, and Trial 3 .
