Avery took the hit and got fired b/c Sam and Rose didn't confess, esp. Sam -betrayal of friendship and job -Sam gives the projector to Avery when they are throwing it out Recognizing the fact that he did something wrong Sam is trying to make amends, and wants Avery to forgive him Avery is not willing to give him friendship Avery learns cynicism, he gets hurt and can’t trust anyone – pessimistic Closing himself off; he has to have believed they were friends Too painful to deal with, say things they don’t mean b/c they are not aware of or willing to confront feelings Driving more walls – talks down Sam being nothing, Avery thinks he will be important Avery doesn’t actually believe he is better Describes long end of movie and says this isn’t that movie – you cant have faith; he can’t say he was hurt
