The LD50 of compound C is 0.85 mg/kg. The LD50 of compound D is 93.92 mg/kg. I determined this by using the slope equation with 5 as the y-value, as this is the amount of the compound it would take to kill 50% of the population, with the log value of the compound at y=5 as the x- value. The LD50, by definition, is the dose of a compound that kills 50% of the population, or the acute lethality of a compound. (1) This value is helpful in regulating chemical compounds and in the standardized toxicological testing of substances. (2) It is also helpful in gauging potency of a compound as a lower LD50 means a higher potency. This is because a lower dose is needed to kill 50% of the population, therefore the compound is more potent. 2. The NOAEL is the “no observable adverse effect level”. (1) This value is arbitrary as there are infinite values of dosage between the NOAEL you observed and the LOAEL. However, this value is

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
