The Number of Hurricanes Each Year from 1944-2010 Hurricane Data Set: 3,3,1,2,4,3,8,5,3,4,2,6,2,2,4,2,2,7,1,2,6,1,3,1,0,5, 2,1,0,1,2,3,2,1,2,2,2,3,1,1,1,3,0,1,3,2,1,2,1,1,0,5, 6,1,3,5,3,4,2,3,6,7,2,2,5,2,5 How many hurricanes did we have in 1944? 2010? 2000? What year did we have the most hurricanes? Slide 4- 2

Slide 4- 3 Histograms and Quantitative Data A histogram plots the data frequency counts as the heights of bars where each bar represents a numeric range of values called bins.

Slide 4- 6 Histograms: Properties A histogram is similar to a bar chart except the x- axis is a numerical scale and the y-axis is the frequency information. The histogram bars do not necessarily have gaps. Bin sizes must be chosen to group the data together, especially for large data sets. The end-points of the bins are usually convenient or nice numbers that group the data logically. Data values that fall on the end-point of a bin are chosen to go in the next higher bin to the right.

Slide 4- 7 Relative Frequency Histograms A relative frequency histogram displays the percentage of cases in each bin instead of the count.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
