Page 1 of 3 PSYC (Chapter 13) The Bem Self-Perception Theory can explain this phenomenon, in which a woman who had mixed feeling about abortion and then choose to never have an abortion after the abortion rally held by the pro-life a group. The Bem Self-Perception Theory suggests that we make inferences about our attitudes by perceiving and examining our behavior and the context in which it occurs, which might involve inducements to behave in certain ways. In this particular instance, this woman who attended the anti-abortion rally must have come to the conclusion that she is against abortion since she attended the pro-life rally. In addition, she may also have asked herself “why would I attend an anti-abortion rally unless I am against abortion”, thus resulting in her decision to never have an abortion. The fact that she was already unsure about her feelings about abortion must have played into the flaccidity of her opinion of abortion, as the pro-life rally acting as an inducer to sway her opinion of abortion in their favor. (Chapter 14) A transactional leader is an individual in a leadership position who emphasize the exchange relationship between the worker and the leader and who applies the principle that a good job should be rewarded, as well as punished for a bad job.
