F ALL S EMESTER 2016 HISTORY 1020 STUDY GUIDE FOR HOURLY EXAMINATION #1 E XAM ON W EDNESDAY , S EPTEMBER 14, 2016 20% OF F INAL G RADE The first exam will take place on Wednesday, September 14. It will cover: a) materials covered in class lectures from Wednesday, August 17 through and including Monday, September 12 b) chapter 15 in your textbook Worlds Together, Worlds Apart , pages 530-569* [including maps, illustrations, sidebars, primary sources, etc.] * the chapter’s section on “Persistence of the Qing Empire that spans pages 557-560 will NOT be covered on this exam, but do be sure to review the chapter “Conclusion” on pages 560-561 and review materials on pages 562-563. The materials on pages 564-569 will not be covered in regular questions, but could serve as the basis for the extra credit question. IT IS IN YOUR BEST INTEREST TO BEGIN PREPARING FOR THE EXAM NOW, AS METHODICAL STUDY ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE EXAM IS FAR MORE EFFECTIVE THAN LAST MINUTE CRAMMING. Please carefully review the section of the syllabus on cheating and academic honesty. There will be multiple versions of the exam, the GTA’s and I will ask you to abide by certain test-taking guidelines [things like turning baseball caps around, keeping eyes down, placing notes, phones, and electronic devices under your chairs and out of sight, etc.]. You will be required to sign an academic HONESTY CODE / PLEDGE on each exam this semester in order to receive any credit for the exam, those who fail to sign the appropriate blank on the exam itself (not the Scantron form) will receive a 0 . PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL NEED A STANDARD BLUE SCANTRON FORM AND AT LEAST TWO RELIABLE #2 PENCILS; YOU SHOULD FILL OUT THE FOLLOWING SECTIONS OF THE SCANTRON FORM IN ADVANCE: NAME (LAST, FIRST, M.I.) ; IDENTIFICATION (BANNER ID#) ; AND TIME (10AM) CAREFULLY FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS PROVIDED TO YOU ON CANVAS. ON THE DAY OF THE EXAM THE ONLY PART OF THE SCANTRON FORM YOU SHOULD NEED TO FILL OUT IN ADDITION TO YOUR ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS 1-30 IS THE BUBBLE UNDER “V/J” WHERE YOU WILL INDICATE WHICH TEST VERSION YOU HAVE RECEIVED . The exam will be consist of the following: 33 MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS (3 points each, 99 points total, everyone starts with 1 “free” point) 1 EXTRA CREDIT QUESTION (3 points, allowing for a perfect, unadjusted exam score of 103*) Each student will start the exam with a score of 1; your final score will be out of 100.
