The general timeline of the movie is Januarythrough April of 1865. Being set in this time, the movie highlighted the key points of the processof passing the 13th amendment, which in turn would formally abolish slavery in all states andcondemn millions of African American’s to freedom. In the movie, Lincoln anxiously stressedthe need for the amendment to be voted on and passed fairly quickly. Why was this? Well,Lincoln not only believed the passing of the “13th” would end the war once and for all, he alsofelt that by passing it he could stop the re enslavement of already freed slaves.
