Yanira DeLao Lab 5 report Experiment Title: Determination of Ideal Gas Law Constant Purpose: To determine the ideal gas law constant, using a catalyst to initiate an oxidation – reduction reaction, and use the ideal gas law to determine the number of moles of gas is generated in a reaction Equipment/Materials: 15mL Bottle Plastic Tubing Yeast Packet 3% Hydrogen Peroxide 10mL Graduated Cylinder 50mL Graduated Cylinder 250 mL Beaker Weigh Boat Tap Water Balanced Equation: 2 H2O2 2 H2O + O2 Results: As each trial required more hydrogen peroxide, gas inside the bottle containing yeast cause an increase in gas in the graduated cylinder. The bottle that contained yeast and hydrogen peroxide increased in temperature and bubbled in response to the reaction between the H2O2 and yeast. The yeast acted as a catalyst aiding the produced gas to react faster. In trial 1/2, 1ml of hydrogen peroxide was used with .01g of yeast and this yielded a 9mL change in volume
