Rachel Lasky 3-18-08 Psychology Owens Is It Ethical for Mothers to Work Outside of the Home? A common issue for many people is whether or not the fact that the mother of an infant should be working or not. The first three years of a child’s life are the most crucial no matter what stance you are taking. It is in these early years that a child learns the basic ropes of life and literally how to maneuver around life’s obstacles. Who that child learns from and the environment which they learn it all play key factors, but would the sole fact of an infant’s mother holding a regular job during these years impact the child’s future in a completely negative way? I don’t think so at all. One case that suggests that the infants of working mothers matures slower and are predicted to suffer in the classroom involves the use of the Bracken School Readiness Scale (Yes, 127). This test selected infants of working mothers and then visited them at different intervals of life to track their mental growth. While the study did suggest that it
