Unformatted text preview: Case of Anna O: Josef Breuer (study of respiration etc) befriended Freud.-21 year old Anna O: intelligent and attractive, suffered from hysterical complaints: paralysis, memory loss, mental deterioration, nausea, and vision/speech disturbances.-symptoms came after nursing her dying father(who she had a very close relationship with)-hypnosis was used and when hypnotized she would recall experiences that would give rise to her symptoms, this also alleviated her symptoms. “chimney sweeping” “talking cure” Breuer saw her everyday for a year and he realized the events she was recalling under hypnosis were events which she found repulsive. This relived disturbing experiences along with symptoms. Positive TRANSFERENCE: she was transferring the love she felt for her father to her therapist Legend: Breuer saw her charm and helplessness similar to his own mother and because of the attraction he could no longer treat her, she was then in hysteria with childbirth and Breuer terminated the hysteria...
