Was almost 70 and lived in Gettysburg. Stood in the middle of the Iron Brigade. Minie Ball. Bullet in the rifled musket. Hollow cavity in the base of the bullet. Fast to reload and as accurate as an old musket. Smooth bores 100 yds. max Rifled musket 500 yds. Max Jefferson Davis – 1855 was secretary of war. 12 major land battles 1861-63 CSA attacks in 8, losing 97,000 men U.S. loses 87.000 due largely to incompetent generals. Lee lost 50,000 in VA in 1862 Vicksburg – didn’t celebrate July 4 th again until middle of world war 2 since they lost so many on July 4 th . U.S. Grant William Tecumseh Sherman. Military genius in his own right. Sherman unleashes total war upon the south. Nathan Bedford Forrest. Another great military genius. Millionare and made his own calvary. Started as a private and ended up as a general. Killed more men in hand to hand
