Appraisal
A performance appraisal is the method of evaluating a workers performance in
relationship to specific established organizational benchmarks.
It is a systematic and periodic
process that assesses the individual job performance and productivity against their employer’s
goals and objectives.
Performance appraisals are helpful to not just the employee but to the
organization in general, ensuring they are on task with their main objectives.
As per
the
textbook
, in which Youssef describes performance appraisal is the procedure of evaluating,
accessing and appraising work performance with worker.
Performance appraisal offer
productive criticism for the employee,
and it is an effect measures companies use to determine if
they are in line with their goals and objectives.
Also, performance appraisals are vital in the HR
planning by offering info
rmation
on job placement, promotions, demotions and transfers or any
correction actions, even termination.
As an employee, the outcome of a good performance
appraisal lead to monetary compensation of salary or bonuses and even promotion within their
organization
(Youseff, 2012)
.
As stated in Jackson’s article, “Performance reviews might not
ever be fun, but they can be effective and powerful ways of creating more loyalty among team
members when they’re done right”.
This procedure consist of an employer establishing job principles; measuring the
employee's final performance compare to these criteria; and giving feedback to the employee
with the purpose of encouraging them to correct any weakness in their performance always
encouraging them to stay the course to accomplish above average. (Dessler, 1999). When
appraisals are done properly they are constructive to the development of employees.
The process
of motivation and encouraging employee can enhance and in improve their performance, giving
