Stephanie Salome Jon Nyquist May 11, 2016 Mardi Gras: Made in China The movie Mardi Gras, directed by David Redmon, examines the cultural and economic globalization that follow the cycle of Mardi Gras beads from a factory in Fuzhou, China, to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Mardi Gras consists of a carnival in which many get together to drink and trade beads in exchange for flashing boobs. There are floats that go around and through these beads and toys around. Many people dress up, there are so many color all over the floats, and of course thousands and thousands of beads. When people were asked if they had any idea where the beads came from, some had no clue and others just knew that they came from China. What was very interesting was the fact that even though they take part in this event, they did not know the background of this fete or where it originated from. It was not always about throwing beads to see boobs, it was to start off Lent. This festival originated in medieval Europe and was a Christian holiday whose roots were from Rome. It soon became a holiday in Louisiana
