Physics 211 Impulse and Change in Momentum Solutions 1 Equipment Dynamics cart and track, motion sensor, force probe index card, rubber band. Objective To measure the change in the momentum of a cart, and to compare it to the impulse. Set up the dynamics track and sensors as shown. Attach an index card to the cart to give the motion detector a larger target. Be sure the track is level. Start the Logger Pro program. Go to Experiment/Data Collection and change the “Duration” to 2.5 se c and the “Sampling Rate” to 200 per sec. Important - Before each trial, be sure “zero” the force sensor. Click on “Collect” and either push or pull on the hook on the force probe and also allow it to “coast” at times. Keep your pushes and pulls on the hook as parallel to the track as possible. The program will generate force versus time and velocity versus time graphs. Graph A shows the x component of the force on the cart before, during and after it is pulled. When you integrate the area “under” the force versus time
