Topic: Benefits of Buying Used/ Secondhand Books
General Purpose: To Inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience why it is important to buy used
secondhand books
Start: The Best Thing that ever happened to me was, finding the
secondhand bookstore called Park Road books located in charlotte, NC. It
was the summer of 2018, and I was preparing to go back to college when I
found this wonderful place. Tucked into a shopping mall, it felt like I was
Stepping into a store from a different universe. There were vines on the
wall, a small dog following you, and an older gentleman seating behind a
counter, waiting to answer my many questions. Since 2018, this 41-year
bookstore has been my favorite spot for unique books.
Reading some Stats: Today, there are around 10,800 second hand
bookstores in the U.S. The secondhand book market currently holds a
market value of US$ 24.03 Bn. By 2032, the secondhand books market is
expected to rake in sales revenue worth of US$ 45.53 Bn. Today will be

discussing the importance of buying used secondhand books and charm/
adventure it brings. I have 6 key points to discuss
Main Points of speech
1. First, They’re Cheap and Affordable
a. As with buying anything secondhand, buying used books is an
effective way to save a lot of money. Brand-new books are
often overpriced simply for the fact that they are new.

what? The words are the same whether the book is new or has
been loved by readers before you!
b. Used books from a secondhand store like, “Our Third Eye
Bookstore” located here in west palm beach Florida, can cost a
small fraction of the price of a new book. This is especially true
of larger books like textbooks, which can run up the cost of your
purchases more quickly than you would think.
