RUGGED AND TRENDY – Canada Goose began
in 195 7
as Metro Sportswear , a small clothing
manufacturer in Toronto. The owner was Sam Tick , an
immigrant from Poland. In the 1970s, Tick's son - in - law ,
David Reiss , built
the company by specializing in
down-filled winter clothes.
The company made most
of its products for other clothing brands. It also had one
brand of its own , the Snow Goose parka – a heavy - duty
goose - down coat made for working in the extreme cold
of northern Canada .
In the early 1990s , Metro Sportswear lost a lot
of its customers to cheaper manufacturers in Asia . In
1997 , David ' s son , Dani , took a big risk . He decided
to rebuild the business around the company ' s Snow
Goose parka . “It was the best of its kind in the world .
